Definition of cherished number plates

What is the definition of cherished number plates. The hint is in the first word of the phrase. In this day of throw away dvla registration numbers which are cheap to buy and more and more need mis-spacing or misrepresenting to mean anything the phrase is used to describe a registration number which is cherished because of it’s scarcity, its suitability to the owner and inevitably the price paid. Owners of cherished numbers would never think of leaving their registration number on the car when they sell it, owners of cheap registrations often will not pay the eighty pound transfer fee, they think that little of their number.
