Grief caused me to sink into debt

At one point during my collage years I was able to keep on top of eight credit cards, all with a balance.  However after my mother was diagnosed with cancer and died way sooner than expected, I became depressed and started to neglect things.  I missed payments and turned in my financial aid application in late, forcing me to charge the tuition and fees for her final year of college.  An unpaid internship, which would have been feasible with financial aid, pushed me deeper into debt when I began charging living expenses as well.   It wasn’t long before my debt was completely unmanageable.  Fortunately I had the smarts to sign on with a credit card debt settlement firm.  I completed the program six months ago and I am debt free.
