Why Is Acid Reflux Syndrome Called Acid Reflux?

The medical term for acid reflux, or acid reflux syndrome is Gastroesophageal Reflux disease (GERD). Individuals will also refer to the symptom as heartburn. This happens when the acid in the stomach backs up into the esophagus and causes pain and inflammation in the lower part of the esophagus. The symptoms of acid reflux syndrome varies with each individual but some are common difficulty in swallowing, cramping, sore throat, hoarseness, pain below the breastbone, spitting up at night, unusually high salivation, coughing and shortness of breath. Being a woman you may feel the symptoms of acid reflux syndrome if you are pregnant.
