Snow During the Winter

This is particularly true in northern areas where some amount of snow is apt to accumulate during winter on the lower roof slopes. Check roof edges carefully for evidence that ice-damming damage has occurred. This may be in the form of separated metal edging, moisture deposits or drippings behind the fascia board, soft peelings of paint at soffit edges or joints. Use the paint scraper and screwdriver to test for softness of wood along the roof edges. Note the frequency of soft spots and try to determine if the condition persists along all roof edges to a greater or lesser degree.
