Water Damage Broke My Heart
When I tell people about how my basement flooded, they figure I just had to deal with water damage to the home. But the damage went so much deeper. At least psychologically. I mean, the damage to my home was extensive and we had to gut the floors but I learned a valuable lesson further than that. The floor can be replaced. But my memories cannot be. I had three boxes of mementos and keepsakes in cardboard boxes on the floor. Everything was ruined. I never thought to store them at a higher elevation. I didn’t think that water damage could happen to me. Now I know better.
