21st Century Advertising: Performance SEO

When my husband had a small construction contracting business a few years ago, we spent money each month for a listing in the yellow pages section of the local phone book.  That listing got us very little work and ended up costing us more than it made us in return, so we cancelled it.  He did other advertising- word of mouth, in local church bulletins, and on small yard signs, but a website would have been the best way for him to advertise.  We could have utilized performance seo to use certain common construction key words to enter into our site to ensure his site would make it to the top of search engine results.
